Part One · Chapter 3

Intrauterine Development

I would like to dwell on the upbringing and education of the fetus during the period of its intrauterine development. There is little information about this period, and it is published with great caution. Recent studies speak of the fetus's ability to perceive. At first it was said that it perceives sounds. Then it was discovered that the more it hears its own family, the faster it recognizes them after birth. In other words, there is a certain kind of preparation that can be carried out with the fetus in the mother's womb: to establish a connection with it by telling it about the family. In addition, studies of twins have shown that a sensation of connection exists between fetuses: they feel each other. It turns out that the fetus perceives quite a lot, and we take no account of this whatsoever.

This should not be surprising. We divide Nature into parts, we allow for breaks between the stages of our development, because it is more convenient for us that way. That is how we relate to Nature in general: we divide it up into sciences, even though it is one. We divide the body into parts and treat them separately. In the same way, we divide our entire life into periods and study them, separating one from another. The reason for this is that we were created this way in our egoism, which separates us from one another. Moreover, such a stance is convenient for our egoism: after all, I feel myself above Nature and can deal with each part according to my own understanding. But if I say that Nature is a single mechanism in a single movement, then this, above all, obligates me to study the whole of it and to fulfill its global and integral laws. Therefore the intrauterine period, nursing, and the other stages, up to the adult state, are inseparably connected stages in the formation of a person, and they fully influence one another.

But we evaluate each stage differently…

And yet this is a system, all the parts of which are joined by the same inseparable connection as the organs of our body, where each cell is connected with the rest. Therefore, when we speak of the fetus, does it belong to the mother alone? Has it lost its connection with its father?

Psychology places a large question mark over the role of the father in the first year.

But throughout history humankind has always attached great importance to the father: the surname was given after the father, inheritance passed through him, and so on. This is not by chance…

I think such an attitude is connected with the existence of one system within another. In order for the infant to receive everything necessary, in the first two years the mother creates a special environment for it. Modern studies show that the infant begins to perceive the father as an environment external to the unit of itself and the mother. That is, the father is nevertheless there. But we have gotten a little ahead of ourselves. Into what stages do you divide the intrauterine period of the fetus's development?

My division is as follows: three days of absorption of the seed, during which it attaches to the wall of the womb. Then the period of the fetus's formation begins. The first stage of its development ends at 40 days, including the first three days of the seed's absorption. After 40 days have passed, the fetus is considered already to exist; it is already a human being. It already has its future form and the foundation of its future independence is laid within it. Accordingly, it must be treated as such.

In full measure?

Yes, because everything is already present in it.

Including desires and qualities?

Absolutely everything. It lacks the development needed to enter into connection with us, but it already exists. It should be treated as a human being.

But at this stage we usually do not even know of its existence.

We do not know, because our sense organs do not perceive it. But it is already the completed form of the future human being.

Is there a possibility of influencing this form at the stage of its creation?

With everything: with music, with poetry, with any kind of influence, just as with an adult. Even at conception, and even before it.

But during the first 40 days the woman does not even know that she is pregnant.

That does not matter, since it pertains to organizing the right environment for the fetus. And what we are talking about is what happens according to the laws of Nature. To what extent we can determine them and prepare the mother is already another problem. In general, intrauterine development is divided into three periods of three months each. Of course, the months are counted by the lunar calendar, because the female organism, as is known, is connected with the Moon, just as the male is connected with the Sun.

What exactly develops in each of the three periods?

The most important qualities develop during the first three months — the most significant development takes place in the first stage.

This corresponds to the medical research on the development of the brain during the first three months. That is why they are considered the most dangerous, requiring careful behavior.

The woman must be in a state of calm and balance. In order for the fetus to develop properly, she must think about it and treat it as a living being. She must talk with it, as doctors advise today, sing, play, evoke its reactions, since after 40 days the rudiments of the future human being already appear in it. She must feel its personality within herself.

How can we give the woman the possibility of imagining this connection, which manifests only on the sensory level?

There is a possibility of being in connection with the fetus — in knowledge, in sensations, in communication.

To sense whether it feels bad or good?

Even more than sensing herself, since the mother lives according to its desire!

You said that one must talk with the fetus, play music for it. What genre of music is preferable?

The mother will feel this in relation to her child, to its particular state. One need only awaken in the mother a readiness and an awareness that she is in connection with the fetus, like two people. This connection is natural and so deep that nothing can sever it. Even the mother's subconscious thought already influences the fetus.

That is, she must know that everything she hears has an effect on it. It is known that all of the mother's states affect the fetus: stress, poor nutrition, drugs, but also simple emotional experiences. In psychology there is a method called "the mother knows": let the mother do what she knows, and that is enough. And even if she makes a mistake, that too is good: from it she gains experience.

In Nature, the concept of "mother" means the full bestowal of the maternal organism to the development of the fetus: all her intentions are for the benefit of the fetus, she is entirely tuned to caring for it and does not think about herself. If we convey such a sensation to future mothers, preparing them while they are still in school, then above all we will be able to cultivate in them a sensitivity toward another person, and they will pass correctly through all the stages of pregnancy. Then they will better understand and feel not only their own fetus, but other people as well. Such an attitude should extend to all of humanity, for we are all "each in the womb of another, and we all carry one another within ourselves."

I would also like to ask about the father as the external environment.

In Nature, the degree of Father is higher than the degree of Mother. He determines the qualities of the fetus to a greater extent, while the mother develops them. The mother gives the forces, the so-called flesh, while the Father gives the basic qualities to the fetus. This has to do with one's approach to life. The child learns many things inside the mother during the intrauterine period and then during nursing. But its inner qualities are transmitted to it from the father. The conception of the fetus proceeds from the degree of Father through the degree of Mother, from whom it is born. In any case, the Father is the first and the determining one; it is precisely the father who gives the drop of seed, which the mother develops! The Father determines what the Mother will have, and her mechanism conveys everything received from the Father to the fetus. That is, the Mother is the intermediary between the Father and the fetus. I am not diminishing the significance of the maternal function; I merely wish to emphasize that the father cannot be left out of account.

You have placed him above everyone!

Between them there is a very subtle and essential division; each performs his own function and does not touch upon the domain of the other.

Is one more important, and the other less so?

It is impossible without either of them. For the child's development it is of great significance whether the father is beside the mother or not, and the character of their relationship also determines the relationship in the child's own future family with his spouse.

There is in fact research on this subject. The father has many indirect functions.

It is precisely the father's qualities that are transmitted to the children, so that they may realize them in the future. The mother determines childhood to a greater extent, while the father manifests in the person once he himself has grown up and becomes a father.

Studies speak of the infant's ability, from the first days, to feel that it has two environments. The mother is one environment, which it feels while being in full symbiosis with the mother: he and she are one world. But there is also a second environment — the father. When the infant hears the father's voice, or the father takes it in his arms, this is very important, since it is connected with a sense of security. In children the presence or absence of the father is connected with a feeling of being protected and with the level of the results achieved. Surprisingly, when playing the same game with the father as with the mother — without any competition between them — the child achieves better results. This is hard to explain, but it is so.

Everything that the mother requires with respect to the child, the father is obligated to fulfill. But he himself connects with the child through the mother, until the period of upbringing begins at the age of 3 — then the boy must be in the environment of boys and men, including the father.

Is there a difference between boys and girls?

The care of girls lies entirely with the mother, while the father must be behind her. In the care of boys, from the first day the child must feel both the mother and, against her background, the father, and then, from the age of 3, pass into the upbringing of the father and the educators. The fact that our boys, throughout all the years of growing up in school, are brought up by women is destroying them!

I completely agree with this: they do not feel themselves to be men. The entire educational system is run by women, and from the standpoint of psychology this creates in boys a feeling of resistance to this system.

Let us sum up. We have spoken of the need to relate to Nature as a single whole. Being an egoist, a person divides reality into a multitude of layers. But reality in itself is perfect and complete — it is only my egoism that does not see this. We said that the fetus is formed during the first 40 days. Whether we feel it or not, it is already a human being. Intrauterine development consists of three periods of three months each, and the process of development is directed from the inner parts to the outer ones. We also spoke of the importance of the mother's role: the mother devotes herself entirely to caring for the fetus, feeling it as a part of herself. And we did not forget the father — he adds his outer circle to the inner maternal environment. The father gives the fetus its inner qualities, and the mother develops them. In this way they complement each other in the conception and upbringing of the child.

The father delineates the outer boundaries of the environment, and the children must feel this.

Everything that the woman requires with respect to the fetus, the father must fulfill. Boys feel the father more than girls do; the father is dominant with respect to the son, and the mother with respect to the daughter. But we will speak of this in the following conversations.
